Alpharetta

Alpharetta is a community with a character all its own. Part Southern, part cosmopolitan, but always down to earth and accessible. Whether you’re looking for a home for your business or yourself, you’ll find everything from tranquil street locations to high rises, from swim and tennis neighborhoods to wooded escapes.

Welcome to Alpharetta

Popular retail-rich town where the small-town vibes create harmony with big-city assets

A charming small-town atmosphere is folded in with big-city resources in Alpharetta, whose vibrant community resources and picturesque scenery set the stage for a truly spectacular residential lifestyle. The city is bounded to the south by Johns Creek and Roswell, to the north by Milton and Big Creek, and lies just 30 minutes from Atlanta. It’s conveniently located right between the more rural, adventurous sections of Northern Georgia and the metropolis’ dazzling urban offerings.

Alpharetta’s modern history dates back to the 1830s with the first pioneers’ settlement, and the city was chartered in 1858. The community remained primarily agrarian until a revitalization in the 1980s fostered a population boom that facilitated the creation of several expansive mixed-use developments that hold community centers, retail offerings, restaurants, high-end housing, and business offices.

Much of Alpharetta’s desirable housing lies in alluring communities within walking distance of retail centers like Avalon and Halcyon. Single-family attached townhomes reign supreme in these communities, offering multiple bedrooms and luxe amenities at incredibly reasonable prices. For those who crave lots with a little more acreage and separation from the urban thrum, Alpharetta has plenty of detached single-family homes. These can range from half-million-dollar with wrap-around front porches and dreamy exteriors to multimillion-dollar estates with more than 10,000 square feet of luxury.

What to Love

  • One of the best shopping cities in Georgia
  • Imaginative communities designed for an idyllic residential life
  • Newer-build homes with the option to custom-build
  • Plenty of rural scenery coupled with urban amenities

People & Lifestyle

In Alpharetta, residents are given every opportunity to thrive in a city truly developed to be a work, play, and live environment. From its quaint and scenic downtown with sparkling fairy lights and tree-lined streets to the retail mecca of Avalon, Alpharetta has exciting options to keep visitors and residents alike entertained. Its population of over 65,000 comprises families and young professionals, entrepreneurs, and couples, most of whom are highly educated and flock to the city for its white-collar employment, top-tier amenities, and beautiful new housing.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Alpharetta has established not one but three complex mixed-use developments which house everything from 12-screen theaters to high-end designer stores and niche local restaurants. For example, at Avalon, residents get to experience a family-friendly atmosphere and a resort-level of hospitality that’s melded with an airy open-space development. Next door to luxury housing and business offices, shops housing brands like Apple, lululemon athletica, Crate & Barrel, Madewell, and Peloton invite visitors to spend their day browsing.

There’s ample to try in the dining scene at Avalon, too, and culinary styles go international here. Dig into exquisite dishes that can range from the gourmet South African street-food of Biltong Bar to the tasteful Persian cuisine at Rumi’s Kitchen, to the classic pub fare at locations like Marlow’s Tavern. More retail therapy is available at one of Alpharetta’s other shopping developments, Halcyon. Here, you’re more apt to find local niche stores like Nina + Leigh and Rise & Wine tucked right beside the Cinébistro, where moviegoers can order upscale meals with their movie screening.

Still not convinced that Alpharetta is a shopping paradise? Head to Downtown Alpharetta for a bevy of local retailers and chic boutiques and cuisine that ranges from trendy southern comfort fare at places like South Main Kitchen to the creole and Cajun delights at Flatlands Bourbon and Bayou. One of Atlanta’s most popular shopping malls is also located in Alpharetta, appealing to indoor shoppers all over the state. Northpoint Mall houses dozens of stores, including national food chains like California Pizza Kitchen and name-brands such as Aerie, White House Black Market, and Express

Things to Do

Thanks to Alpharetta’s abundance of natural beauty, outdoor recreation is a breeze here. The town’s dedication to providing activities for its residents means that there’s always a concert to revel in, a festival to attend, or a recreational center to make use of for sports or fitness. One of the most popular walking trails, the Big Creek Greenway is an 8-mile-long concrete walkway that ambles along Big Creek, parallel to North Point Parkway. Those strolling the path can encounter plentiful wildlife and appreciate Big Creek for the urban oasis it is.

Wills Park is another much-used location and has facilities for swimming, several fields for sports, basketball courts, tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic areas, trails for walking, an equestrian center, and equestrian trails. An outdoor spot for entertainment, Ameris Bank Amphitheatre is a 12,000-seat music venue that hosts top artists and bands from across the country in multiple genres, all in a gorgeous park setting. Drawing in 40,000 visitors, Taste of Alpharetta is the town’s premier event each year. Set in the charismatic downtown area, this festival displays Alpharetta’s best cuisine and culinary excellence through vendors, cooking demonstrations, dining events, and tasting tents.
