Bucolic rural town radiating luxury and ease
Travel north from Atlanta and towards the outer bounds of Fulton County, and you’ll come across the small town of Milton. With its shaded oaks and towering hickories, great swaths of open green, and rolling country hills, Milton maintains a rural feel despite being only 40 minutes from Atlanta’s bustling metropolis. More than simply agrestic, Milton also emanates the iconic, luxurious southern lifestyle that most might imagine when thinking of the great state of Georgia.
Officially incorporated in 2006, Milton is new to cityhood. However, newness doesn’t equate to a lack of excellence—just five years after its incorporation, Milton was ranked as having the highest quality of life in the state, ninth in the country. In addition to its sweeping countryside and gorgeous scenery, Milton is also well-known for being a haven for golfers and equestrians.
The buyer’s dollar goes a long way in Milton, and luxury here doesn’t simply translate into amenities or world-class architecture, though these certainly come in spades. In Milton, luxury often includes space. The multimillion-dollar properties here come on a range of massive lots—or smaller 1-3 acres depending on your need—and can have residences with over 15,000 square feet and 6+ bedrooms. Gated entrances, horse stables, stunning pools, and access to trails are all frequent facets of Milton’s luxury homes, but you certainly don’t have to purchase big to enjoy the serene beauty of this town. Smaller gated communities, attractive townhomes, condos, and stately single-family houses in styles ranging from Federal Revival to simple country farms are all available in Milton.
The majority of residents in Milton are family units, many of whom have children and are homeowners. The city boasts an excellent school system, high property values, and a strong dedication to the community that allows Milton to maintain its rural charm. It’s an excellent place for anyone who loves the outdoors, particularly if you’re drawn to horsemanship or golfing.
Despite Milton’s new status as a city, the area harbors a rich history that extends to its southern border with the presence of Downtown Crabapple and Crabapple Market. The historic city of Crabapple was incorporated into Milton, though its settlement dates back to 1874, and now serves as a commercial hub for mom-and-pop businesses, community gatherings, dining, and making connections.
One notable shop situated in the downtown market location is Kathleen’s Catch, which provides some of the freshest seafood in Georgia thanks to their daily deliveries and dedication to selling top-quality products. A purveyor of locally sourced gourmet foods, Cheeses & Mary is a one-of-a-kind store that’s a must-try for lovers of artisan cheese and magnificent cheese plate accoutrements that bring out the excellent flavors of farm-to-table cuisine.
Prefer to spend a night out enjoying fine dining rather than cooking at home? Tucked away in the Crabapple Historic District, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails is a 150-year-old farmhouse that’s been elevated into a rustic-chic restaurant. The high-end, contemporary New Southern cuisine is crafted from locally sourced ingredients, mainly from the garden on location.
Whether you’re into sports, the outdoors, music, or fine wine, Milton has you covered. Abundant in greenspace, Milton has several parks with very amenities that can accommodate your perfect day out with friends or the kids. Bell Memorial Park is sports-oriented and houses multiple lighted fields for baseball and football, a playground, and ample room for picnicking. A broader, forested expanse can be found at Providence Park, where visitors can access 42 acres for exploring. Ideal for hiking, walking, and relishing scenic overlooks of Lake Providence, this slice of heaven is a fantastic way to revel in the captivating foliage and wildlife of Milton.
On the gorgeous arcadian estate of Pamelot Farm, Milton’s founding winery—Painted Horse Winery and Vineyards—invites guests to savor the expressive flavors of their boutique-bottled wines and traverse the grounds of the working horse farm on site. If it’s live music you’re after, Matilda’s at the Porch offers up a unique and intimate venue whose outdoor concerts encourage bring-your-own carry-in foods, drinks, and even tables. Guests are also advised to come early the day of the concert and write their name on a table outdoors to reserve their spots, making this niche music venue feel like a truly local experience.
